Art Middlekoff- Call to Parents
The beautiful infant frame is but the setting of a jewel of such astonishing worth.

Learn well to know how much need not be known!..
Our needful knowledge, like our needful food,
Unhedg'd lies open in life's common field,
And bids all welcome to the vital feast.

A sacrament is like a recipe with certain key ingredients. So, if I understand right, when faithful believers perform a visible activity, then God will work to convey spiritual grace when the people come with a genuine heart.
If we remain in a position of humility and openness, and we faithfully use the tools of a living education, we can expect direction from the Holy Spirit that results in being unified with His plans in any subject area.
The lesson can be a message from God whispered in our ear when we look at art or listen to music. Its a beautiful reward to humble patient consistent study. A living book invites the Holy Spirit to participate in the education. Isn't that great?
On Narration-
Dr. Smith asked us to consider that we narrate because it is the way we are. It comes from our 'imageness.' Not a culture on earth does not have story as a part of their heritage. And when we use story we bring children into the culture with shared stories. I loved how he encouraged us to use our life organically to infer from texts and have discussions with our children but to do so gently without too much criticism because children model. He encouraged us to aim for children who have a fearlessness to express themselves within their home. And that after a lesson teacher can still sum up things or point out good ideas. It can be part of the Grand Conversation with our co-learners, our students.
- Add written explanations to our drawing narrations. This is our composition lesson for the day. It happens right after we read the story.
- Prepare my readings- Let my son see proper nouns on the white board instead of stopping to explain them as we read.
-Once in a while write down and read the oral narrations back to my son. He is learning to write though he is not putting pen to paper.
-Nature notebooks need writing not just painting.
I'll leave you with two book titles I added to my must read list from the weekend.
