I added half the amount of Oxiclean she recommended. Looking forward to trying it out!
I've been wanting to try some homemade cleaners for a while now. There are so many recipes out there that I've stuck to ones friends have recommended. This first one is homemade laundry soap. If it works as great as she says, it will be a big cost savings from regular detergent. This is the recipe I used. First you grate the bars of soap. Then, dump it all in a 5 gallon bucked lined with a trash bag, mix it and store as you like. Easy! I added half the amount of Oxiclean she recommended. Looking forward to trying it out! And here is a recipe for some other cleaners. I especially liked the stovetop and the bathroom cleaners she shared. What are your favorite cleaning recipes?

Bobby Jo, Now that you've been using this for a while, what do you think? Does it work well? Do you use a fabric softener?

Funny you asked, Heidi! We are just this week noticing that we're getting low on this (how long ago did I make this? June!!) and talking about making more.

In your picture of products above you do not show the oxyclean that the recipe includes. Did you also use that? I am finding other recipes that just use the soap, washing soda, and borax; no oxyclean or baking soda. Any thoughts about adding/omitting these?

I think it would be fine to omit the Oxiclean. I used the regular name brand. We have lots of dirt and grime on some of our work clothing (being on a farm and all.) So I found that it did a little better job with that when I added the Oxiclean. I can't comment about the soda because I did not try it without that. I'd say do a few loads without, and if you don't like the results, add it in later :) HTH!

I also meant to say that if you don't have dirt covered clothes on a regular basis, not adding the oxiclean would be fine, I think.

This is the type of information I’ve long been trying to find. Thank you for writing this information.
