I tried to be as prepared as possible for these days at home. My hopes were/are to keep my 4 year old busy and provide learning opportunities for him while I take time to adjust to things like less sleep and typing with one hand :) thile finding a new rhythm for the days.
My goal for this year has been to begin working our way through Mason's List of Attainments for a Child of Six. Number 7 on the list happens to be: to describe the boundaries of their own home.
I was brainstorming with a friend about fun ways to do this other than just taking walks around the yard. She thought of painting a wall mural for the child's bedroom. I thought a play mat that looks like their home to drive little cars on like those rugs you can buy in the toy departments. So here is ours- painted by me- 8 months pregnant! I used fabric paint and a canvas drop mat from the paint department at the hardware store. After sketching out our 6 acres on paper with my husband's help, I free-handed a map of our farm. I am not a great painter but I did attempt to paint what might resemble our son in the tire swing out front. He likes that part.
Another goal of mine was related to doing seasonal activities, and reading books and poems about the seasons/holidays this year. This season of Advent has been fun to see through 4 year old eyes as we wait for the birth of "our little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay."

Merry Christmas!
